that bowl

Ease of use hidden in a beautiful form that makes you want to touch it.~

"Ano" stands, "Anonymous" and "That -in Japanese". Ease of use hidden in a beautiful form that makes you want to touch it.~
Ano bowl ” was created based on these two meanings. Its biggest appeal is its excellent weight balance , which is hard to imagine from its simple appearance, and its addictive ease of holding . In our household (the two owners of oh), a variety of dishes have been served on the table almost every day for the past few years.
Rice bowls are widely established in Japan as tableware specifically for serving rice, and have become perfected as Japanese tableware. Similarly, there are many tableware in the house that are exclusive to 〇〇. In Japanese homes, where a variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese menus are available, there are more tableware than expected, and some people may be troubled by the amount of tableware they have. I'm one of them too.
For those people, we recommend "That Bowl" .

The wonder of using a bowl to reduce the amount of dishes

Smoke gray in that bowl

``That bowl'' was originally made as a teacup, and because of its weight balance, it fits comfortably in your hand. It also looks great in the center of a dining table when serving a la carte dishes, or it can be used as a salad bowl to create a cafe-like atmosphere . Since it can play both a leading role and a supporting role, it will become a starting member on the table before you know it, and as a result , you can reduce the number of tableware .
This is the case at my house, but the tableware I was able to reduce is as follows.

Tonsui, salad tableware, rice bowls, wooden bowls, small rice bowls, and children's bowls with characters printed on them.
The bowl is scary.

When I stopped using rice bowls, the world of multi-use expanded.

multi bowl
Actually, there are many ways to use it, but if you buy it at a store thinking it's a "tea bowl", then at home it will be used exclusively for rice. So when I designed this bowl, I decided not to call it a "tea bowl." I thought it was a small thing, but it started to make a big difference.

Cereal bowls, soup bowls, salad bowls, fruit bowls.
In the case of Japanese food, it has started to appear in a variety of everyday situations, such as bowls for dipping, ramen bowls, and tonsui for hot pots.
As a pork fillet for a hot pot

The cute round shape is popular among adults as well as children. It might be fun to choose your own color, like gray for me and yellow for me.

Bowls that look like a store and create pictures when stacked

A bowl is a container that can be used for anything , but the appeal of this bowl is that no matter how you use it, it will look stylish and store-bought . Surprisingly, there are no bowls that can be used in both Japanese and Western styles. Personally, I like that it covers more menus than the Iittala Teema Cereal Bowl, since it can cover both Japanese and Chinese food. (Thank you very much for the cereal bowl)

Due to its moderate thickness, it is durable enough to resist chipping even with rough handling, which comes from commercial use. Of course, stacking is OK. It also looks great when stacked , so when guests come over, please stack them in front of them.

Three-colored bowls that will make you want to serve dishes from all over the world.

Color is an essential element when creating delicious-looking dishes. No matter how good the shape and balance may be, if the tableware is all white, it will be a bit bland. It might be fine at a French restaurant, but it's better to have some color on your dining table at home. In particular, Japanese people often enjoy dishes from around the world at home, so we have prepared three colors that match that culture.

white

That bowl of white
The only thing I didn't like about the commercial items I had been using for a long time was that the white color was different from other white tableware. The white color of Japanese tableware is often much brighter than that of Western tableware, so it inevitably stands out on the dining table. Since the soil and kiln are different, it is difficult to match them perfectly, but we tried to match the color as much as possible to the white Oval Plate, a popular oh product. This is white for those who have all white items.

oat yellow

Oat yellow in that bowl
I thought blue or yellow would be good for both Japanese and Western styles to look classy. The celadon-like blue color is also very nice, but it gives it a very urban Chinese feel, so I'll leave it for next time. Oat Yellow, the ultimate neutral color, was born like this.

smoke gray

Smoke gray in that bowl
Dark colors look classy and seem to be popular with men. However, the all-black color is a little heavy to match with food, and it immediately looks Japanese-style. I think the ideal color would be something that looks a little mature and cool on the dining table. It goes well with dishes that have a nutty color, as well as vivid leafy greens. Adding muscat is also very fashionable. Smoke Gray was born out of this delusion. It goes perfectly with the STIIK chopsticks sold at oh.

bowl

Things, photos, and daily life

dull yellow bowl
A combination of shungiku ohitashi and oat yellow. A characteristic of yellow is that it goes well with green colors such as baby leaf.

dark gray bowl
If you have a whitish dish, it will look better if you surround it with gray rather than white. This is a rather bland choice of Shiarae, but potato salad and colorful ingredients would also be good. It's a color that makes you want to try different things like fashion.

classic white bowl
Of course, white rice is good, but when you serve something like miso-stewed mackerel like this, it really stands out as a single dish. White may not have much individuality, but it is the most versatile color, and it is also the color that best describes the shape of this bowl.

That bowl you use for tacos

wine and bowl
This is what it looks like when used at a taco party. This time it's Mexican food, but you can also use this set as is for chirashi sushi.

That oval plate and that bowl

That bowl and that spoon
A fun Chinese day to share. If you use a flat plate, the fried rice will get cold quickly, so a bowl is best. If you match the spoons with similar colors, you'll have a slightly sophisticated street Chinese set.

Chinese style with white tableware
Of course, the city Chinese style is the best, with a minimalist set meal that is all white.

A bowl where you can enjoy just the silhouette
What should I serve today?

story

"Five years until that bowl was created"

In fact, it has been five years since we discovered the prototype that became the basis for this product. I was actually thinking of summarizing the story here briefly, but it turned out to be quite difficult. While convincing myself that just making things short is not the correct answer, I decided to take the plunge and ask them to read longer texts. However, once you read it, the content will make you think, ``I see.'' I'll just talk about the beginning here.

Bowl seen at a cafe in Ebisu
This photo was taken about 10 years ago at a cafe in Ebisu, Tokyo. Since my work was nearby, I went to this restaurant quite often for lunch. The most popular dish is the fried chicken set meal, which comes with curry as a sauce. Of course, you can have any refills of rice. Well, that doesn't matter (lol).
This rice bowl that I came across here has an excellent shape, ease of holding, and weight balance.Every time I visit it, I look at the back and wonder, ``Where is this tableware?'' but there are no markings or markings.

I looked for a store, but I couldn't find it anywhere... I decided to ask the store manager, and it turned out to be rental tableware. I was told about the vendor and was able to get it.
3 years since then. As the main tableware at the dining table, it has been used, used, and overused. Despite being dropped many times and being handled fairly hard, it still looks cool and is still stored in the cupboard today.

You might get tired of using it so much, but I have been left with a lasting impression of how easy it is to use. The important thing about rice bowls and rice bowls is that they are easy to hold . If the area and shape of the parts you touch and the center of gravity are not well balanced, you will feel tired when using it.
scene
For example, even though the recently released iPhone 15 Pro is about 20 grams lighter, it feels even lighter when you hold it. This is because the shape has slightly rounded corners, increasing the area that touches your hand, and adjusting the balance of the overall center of gravity . There are things about tools that cannot be measured by numbers alone, but can only be understood by actually touching them.

From here, the journey begins until the encounter with anonymous tableware becomes ``that bowl.'' I hope you will read the next blog.
There is a first and second part, but I'm sure you'll come back to this page after reading it! ?

Care and quality

About the care and quality of that bowl

That bowl is dishwasher safe. Of course, you can also use the microwave.

・About white color
It will be almost the same white as that oval plate . It's not the white of high-quality porcelain, it's a slightly grayish white, but when you look at it alone, it feels like a regular white.

・About scratches
We have been using it for a long time, and it is a thick and durable item with hardly any noticeable scratches. It's a little thinner than that oval plate . (If you use a metal spoon, the scratches will be more noticeable, so we recommend using it in conjunction with that spoon .)

いい感じです!
