Material: Porcelain Made in Japan (Mino ware)

Made from natural clay. Small black iron powder or pinholes (small holes in the glaze surface) may be found, but this does not affect the use of the product.
The base is made of commercial tableware, so there may be slight distortions, uneven glaze, or size errors, but these are within the range of acceptable quality.

The Balance Between Dressy and Casual: French Vintage Style

Bistro Plate

East Meets West

If you thought it leaned more French than American, you might be someone who has loved interior design for a long time. Indeed, it has a French feel to it. The blue lines on a white background are reminiscent of Saint James's Ouessant.
However, categorizing recent interior design by country has become difficult. Many styles are mixed, and identifying a country from a single space photo is quite a challenge, especially for cafes.
And this plate, in addition to its robust, commercial image, has a very elegant design. It looks great serving authentic French or Italian dishes, and steaks look fantastic on it. It also pairs perfectly with toast and fried eggs. Even omelets are welcome. The rich blue isn't too casual, the line thickness is exquisite, the white isn't too stark, it has a comfortable, moderate thickness, and the rim is just the right width.

These detailed combinations create a design that is both easy to use and charming. The balance between dressy and casual is exquisite. It's something that seems ubiquitous yet is found nowhere else. While it may acquire scratches and stains with use, this can be seen as a transitional phase, transforming like French antiques.

After All, I Still Want Round Plates

At oh, "that oval plate" is very popular. Oval plates are also convenient, but a table setting composed solely of oval plates might be an uncommon sight. It's always useful to have round plates too. However, dedicating plates for specific uses like toast, pasta, or meat is problematic, as storage quickly becomes an issue. We recommend designs that can be used for anything.

Good compatibility with that oval plate
The Bistro Plate has about the same thickness as that oval plate. The rim is slightly raised, making it close to flat. When compared side by side, it is slightly grayer than the oval, but when viewed alone, the blue line seems to emphasize its whiteness.

If You Are Looking For A Flatter Plate

Matte gray plate
If you're looking for an even flatter plate, we recommend the Lounge Plate Matte Gray. The pale matte gray is very elegant and has a design you might see in a hotel lounge. It's perfect for pasta, meat dishes, and even dishes with a lot of sauce.

Peace of Mind with This Look and Made in Japan

Our Bistro Plate is made in Japan (Mino ware), by a long-established manufacturer with 100 years of history. The difference from overseas products is that it is lighter. Another key point is the minimal individual differences such as distortion.
Nevertheless, it is a tool for daily life, not a work of art. At oh, we inspect each plate individually, carefully select those in the best possible condition, and pack them. Minor variations in glaze thickness and pinholes (tiny holes in the glaze surface) are judged as acceptable.

A Delightfully Charming Round Plate that Impresses in Cafes

In the northern part of Fukushima Prefecture lies the Iizaka Onsen area. Within its historic townscape, there's a hidden gem, the long-established "Cafe Hiranaga." It boasts authentic coffee and an enticing menu full of sizzle. It's a perfect combination. This is also a cafe that uses oh's goblet mugs. As a coffee lover, I've had a long relationship with them.
In March 2024, their second branch, "HIRANAGA COFFEE," opened. We were consulted about tableware and supplied a full set. In fact, this Bistro Plate is among them.
The owner's requests included keywords like "American diner, breakfast, white space, mortar-style tables, thick and sturdy, cute." It felt like a rewarding puzzle. Hearing "American diner," I imagined a world like "Back to the Future," but the owner, who has been to America many times recently, had a more modern space in mind. It was like me thinking of ninjas when I hear "Japan." (laughs)

Beautiful and Easy to Use, Everyone's Ally

Tools used in shops are often called commercial (professional specifications), characterized by being dishwasher-safe, uniform in appearance, and relatively affordable. This is something that is appreciated not only in shops but also at home. While there are a tremendous number of commercial products, only a very small number are sold to the general public. They are often sold from trading companies to stores, so there are not many opportunities to see them.
However, if you give us a few keywords, it's our specialty to find tableware that meets your needs. So, we selected this Bistro Plate from professional specifications.
When I went to HIRANAGA COFFEE to deliver and stack them, I was strangely drawn to their presence. And when I ordered a breakfast menu and actually used them, I thought they were incredibly cute.
When I posted them on Instagram, I received many requests in comments and DMs asking us to sell them. They are very easy to use as a one-plate breakfast and their durability for worry-free use is excellent!

Individual Differences and Features

Color of blue line
Variations in the shade of the blue line may be present, but these are judged to be acceptable products.

There may be irregularities in the thickness of the glaze, which may appear as unevenness depending on the angle of light. This is judged to be acceptable.
