Recommendations for home-cooked Chinese food instead of local Chinese food <Oval Plate Edition>

Hello, I'm Wada, the owner of the store.

The world is experiencing an unprecedented boom in local Chinese food. You can eat quickly by yourself and go home. You can also go with a large group and share from a large platter and enjoy it together. The restaurant that was once a mecca for older men is now about half filled by the younger generation, and it doesn't matter what gender, age, or gender you are. This is the true diversity of the local Chinese food scene, and we can't take our eyes off it.

Isn't it great to see that local Chinese restaurants, which have long been a friend to the common people, are becoming a trend? I've long since passed the age where I felt embarrassed to go to a restaurant alone, and I've grown to the point where I can say, "I'll have a bottle of beer for now."

Beer for now

When I go to various restaurants, I sometimes see food served on oval plates . Sometimes it's a large plate, sometimes a small plate. I don't know why, but somehow Chinese food looks more delicious when it's served on an oval. It's really mysterious.

I have a bad habit of wanting to try to imitate something I think is good, so I've made a variety of Chinese dishes at home. Lately, I've been hooked on black fried rice. I use Chinese tamari soy sauce called Lao Chu to create a rich, sweet flavor that you wouldn't expect from the appearance. I don't have a photo of it this time, but I'll write about it on my blog next time.

Recommendations for home-cooked Chinese food

Even if you think, "I want to eat local Chinese food!", it is a little difficult for families with small children to eat at restaurants. During this time of winter, some people may want to avoid crowds. In such cases, you can just eat local Chinese food at home, or "home Chinese food."

I know it's a little late to write this title, but I just realized that "homemade Chinese food" just means making and eating Chinese food at home (laughs). Ah, but surprisingly, if you change the tableware, it actually looks quite authentic.

Chinese food served on an oval plate

The secret is to use an oval plate . That 's it. In this photo, the twice-cooked pork is placed on the 26cm portion of the oval plate, and the spring rolls are placed on the 17cm portion . What a beautiful, Cinderella fit with the spring rolls. Spring rolls are a standard size. The spring rolls sold at 7-Eleven should be the same size. (Seven-Eleven spring rolls are delicious, aren't they?) The small oval plate is associated with Western cuisine, but it is also often used in Chinese cuisine.

*Oval plates don't really show up well in photos, so you can't really get a sense of the size... sorry about that. If you go to the product page , you'll find an explanation that's as easy to understand as possible, so please refer to it.

Keep the bean paste

"An" is an indispensable ingredient in Chinese cuisine. Its thick texture softens the flavor, and especially during this season, it plays an important role in keeping food hot. Tianjin rice, Chinese rice, hot and sour soup, ankake fried rice... Also, gomoku yakisoba! Have you ever had the experience of making the best ankake sauce at a restaurant, but when you make it at home, it becomes soggy and watery as you eat it?

I recently learned that the magic of the bean paste is broken when it is mixed with the components of saliva. Therefore, it is better to eat bean paste dishes from a large plate . And it is important to use separate spoons for serving and eating . This seems to be the golden rule.

I have to try this! I was in the mood for mapo tofu, so I experimented right away. I think I made a little too much, so I served the hot mapo tofu on that 29cm oval plate .

Even I think it looks spicy... This reddish-black color makes you feel like you're eating it! It also contains plenty of sansho pepper for numbing the taste. When ordering a large plate, you can place serving plates for each person on the side of the table to make it feel like a local Chinese restaurant. This time, I chose 17 and 20 cm oval plates .

Oval plates for serving

We can't just have mapo tofu, so let's make fried rice too. We'll take some from the same 29cm plate and eat it. It's getting cold! We have to eat it quickly!

Today, I've added the soon-to-be-released "That Bowl" in oat yellow and " That Spoon " in wood beige to complete my yellow outfit. I'm going to enjoy a local Chinese meal with the three brothers from that series . Personally, I highly recommend using that spoon when eating Chinese food . The mapo tofu in particular is not that liquid, so it's easy to eat and it's no exaggeration to say it's perfect. This is a combination that you should really try.

As for the thickness, it certainly didn't become watery at all until the very end, and was delicious. I wish I'd known about this sooner, and I've decided to adopt the large plate system when eating Chinese food from now on.

The end of the year and the beginning of the year are a time when many families gather together, so if you're tired of the New Year's food, why not try a large plate of street Chinese food, or even home-cooked Chinese food?
