How to make delicious coffee at home vol.2

I love coffee so much that I even made my own original mugs and cups, and following on from vol.1 , I would like to introduce vol.2 of how to enjoy delicious coffee at home.

Water is important for coffee

Once you have the fresh beans that we mentioned in Vol. 1, the next thing to consider is water.
After the beans, it is the water that determines the taste of coffee.

That said, if you live in Japan, tap water is sufficient.

Have you ever tried bottled water such as Evian or Contrex? These are natural European waters that contain a lot of minerals.
Minerals are a general term for calcium, iron, zinc, etc., and water that contains a lot of minerals is called hard water.

It's said to be good for your health, but it has a bit of a unique taste. As it's hard water, it leaves a slightly tingly feeling in your mouth, like when you lick metal. I hear that many people in Japan don't like it.

When you brew coffee with this hard water, it has a sharp taste, if you want to put it in a positive way. It feels like it's a little hard to taste the flavor of the coffee.

On the other hand, water with a low mineral content is called soft water.
Soft water is water that is easy to drink and has no particular flavor, such as natural water from the Southern Alps or Irohasu. Using this soft water gives coffee a mellow flavor.

So, what water is recommended to use to make delicious coffee at home? I think tap water is fine!

Japan's tap water is good for making coffee

Japan's tap water is soft, even by global standards.
In Europe, where coffee consumption is high, tap water is hard, so in order to brew delicious coffee, a large amount of minerals are removed.

Japan's tap water is soft water

However, tap water in Japan is soft water that contains a moderate amount of minerals, so it is suitable for coffee right from the start. If you find the water smells like chlorine or has an iron smell due to old water pipes, simply installing a commercially available water purifier will make a big difference.

So, if you live in Japan, you can make delicious coffee without having to buy water specifically for it!

However, if you use commercially available spring water, it will be a little different! Please try it out. You will be able to see the difference when the coffee cools down.
We used to be good friends The roaster told us that the water from the Shirakami Mountains is super soft, and can be used to brew very mellow, delicious coffee.

Vol.3 is about Mill.
